Cultivating a Positive Mindset
Positivity isn’t about ignoring problems—it’s about facing them with hope, courage, and gratitude.
One thing I’ve realized in life is that the easier choice isn't always the better choice.
It’s easy to be negative in certain situations, you don’t really have to put much thought or effort into that decision.
What takes effort is positivity.
Positivity has a purpose in our life.
It allows us to maintain an open-mind, strive for improvement, and evolve through the situation.
For me, a positive mindset reinforces my belief, trust, and support for myself and my situation, even though it may be a difficult one we’re navigating through.
Oftentimes, when I find myself in a negative mindset, I forget about my purpose and my motivation for whatever it is I’m pursuing at that moment.
Whenever I catch myself thinking that way, I try my best to take a step back and allow myself to reevaluate the situation as unbiasedly as possible.
I always tell myself that if I allow my mind to float in the negative space, then I owe it to myself to experience the positive space as well, to understand both sides of the situation.
I know from experience how difficult that can be in the moment, so I’m constantly working on exercising that muscle to strengthen my habits, similar to going to the gym.
Personally, I do feel it’s worthwhile to discover your purpose for positivity because that will help create a clearer path going forward.
I’ve found that if I don’t determine my purpose, it can make it more difficult to stay focused because my mind will start to wander.
An example of this happening with me is when I don’t set clear goals with my exercise routine. I end up holding myself to higher expectations than what I’m striving for, which sets myself up to fall short of the mark. When in reality, I didn’t even set that goal for myself to begin.
What I’ve learned from those types of experiences is that I’m putting myself in a situation where it’s easy for me to fail and that can cause negativity to creep into my mindset.
The change I’ve made going forward is to set clear goals that can be achieved in the short-term, rather than only setting long-term goals.
This allows me to experience more wins along the journey, which can help build positivity and momentum.
At the end of the day, every situation is different and requires some amount of effort to cultivate a positive mindset.
Changes don’t happen overnight but with daily practice and learning what strategies work for you, you can begin to lead a more positive lifestyle.
